Reflection of class on Feb. 7th
After finished eleven chapters reading of visual design solutions, I realized that designing a good graphic for enhancing reading and understanding is really a difficult work which needs more prudent consideration and carefulness throughout the whole design process.
But for my last brochure project, I spent lots of time on designing the basic layout to form a united view and arranging positions of different images and text contents to suit the unity. Although Sam told me that I did not so good on showing special characters of contents and images, I still think the united view is the spirit of a visual design that I can give up some unique design for particular elements to suit the whole unity. And it’s the reason that I don’t like irregular shapes used in Sam’s brochure.

I tried my best to stand my design idea out in my brochure by implementing diverse contrasts on color and typeface without influencing the unity, but it didn’t work very well because I lost the balance of visual weights between different segments in my brochure. In this case, I’ll pay more attention to this on my next newsletter project to catch the balance.

  1. Analyses of your brochure and Sam's are a good foundation for evaluation of those analyses. Your perception of how you might improve your brochure work in the future is a good mental exercise. I am proud of you for taking that next step.

At the same time, I do not want you to be unduly harsh on yourself. Your brochure is very good, as is. There are always things we might change or do differently next time for just about everything. Do not let that take away from all that is very good in the work you have done already.

    Thanks!
