Reflection of class on Feb.13th
To be honest, we all
feel confused about how to establish and develop a course on the web is that we
don’t have a clear cognition between class and course so that we just designed
classes for informational technology according to a preset course plan from
educational department in China.
I don’t know if
American teachers have to establish an entire course individually for teaching
and practice it in front of professors or observers from education institutions
for evaluation and then they can get a teacher license depending on their
successful teaching and course structure, but in China we just need pass some
exams about pedagogy, psychology and relative knowledge of subjects and a
qualified practicing on class teaching admitted by educational institution to get
a teacher license.
So many teachers
don’t know how to design and create a systemic course from syllabus to activities,
they just know how to teach a class according to the regulated curriculum
demands to make sure students understand the knowledge of dedicated textbooks
and use it to pass exams. In a word, Chinese teachers from elementary school to
senior high school are restricted in a small room constructed by educational
institutions that they don’t have enough room for flexibly creating their own particular
course system to teach students how to learn instead of what to learn because
teaching is almost serving for students to pass exams like “Gao Kao”.
There are so many
scholars in area of Chines educational technology devoting themselves to figure
out how to authentically differentiate students’ deeper learning by integrating
advanced technologies and courses together. As a consequence, Chinese
educational department did provide lots of resources for teachers and students
and reestablish classrooms with multimedia devices according to scholars’
suggestions, but unfortunately they ignored that many teachers don’t know how
to implement those technologies into teaching because they are not forced to use
diverse technologies to reinforce teaching for getting their teacher license.
Actually, many teachers even don’t how to design a course because they don’t
need do that for teaching like me.
But I’ll try my best
to design a course and put it on the web to practice my capabilities on
creating a new course without interfering by presetting curriculum plan like in
China although it’s a little difficult for me to make it now.
Jimmy, you are doing extremely well, now that I understand how different Chinese educational preparation is from American teacher education. Please keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI would like you to comment more specifically on items in the chapter for the next 3 chapters (to the end of the course). However, I very much appreciate your personal reflections - so please continue to comment as you have in that regard.
Your work in class was excellent. In these coming chapters there are more refinements that may not be appropriate (or possible) in the courses we are developing on Canvas right now. So, your comments on the items I have sent you in an email are important to let me know you looked at the text and compared it to Canvas on your computer screen.
