Reflection of class on Feb.14th
Although typeface is an important part of visual design, I always consider a lot about the layout and images because I think they have a much stronger impact on drawing viewers’ attention and gather their interests. But actually, there are many text contents in a visual design like flyer, illustration and brochure, sometimes images and layout are all serving for how to make it easier for viewers to read and understand the text contents.
I have mentioned before that it’s difficult to find a balance between unified overview and visual hierarchy because sometimes I have to give up some particular design for hierarchy to form a unity. Particularly, I always type in characters on areas regulated by layout at last and customize typeface to fit the layout without considering how to create excitement and interest of characters to avoid boring viewing.
So my design seems like an assigned subject that I just fill in different contents and find appropriate images or text contents to fit the layout. I concerned too much on unified layout and fear for breaking out the solid innatism that I never thought about the principle of “out of box” as the author proposed. I’ll try to break the “box” to make the design more interesting by using diverse methods mentioned by the author and explore other ways to make it more effective.
