Reflection of class on Jan.24th
If you have already read my wordless story project, you will find that’s a story about growth and the topic is “It’s time to wake up”.
Different from American students in K-12, you can’t image how tough and stressed time Chinese students could experience in same age. In most Chinese teachers and parents’ view, students or children are saplings in a garden which need gardener’s care and water, of course necessary pruning if there is a strange branch sprouting.
So in school, teachers are absolute authorities of classroom that students can’t do anything except studying and doing exercise. They are not allowed to bring breakfast to school if they missed the breakfast time; they are not allowed to speak loudly out of class; they are not allowed to wear “strange clothes” they like; they are not allowed to go restroom in an examination because teachers afraid they may do some cheating; students in different gender are not allowed to have a close friendship in afraid of being in love.
There are two much normal or ridiculous rules in school for students, they have to obey without any defense otherwise they will be tagged a bad label.
In home, children are also under family rule anytime that their parents are absolute authority no matter their performance are true or false. Parents take full control of their children without providing any private space or opportunity for creative trying. They always tell their children to be what you want to be, but actually they want their children to be what they want to be although they don’t know clearly about their specific expectation on children. Well, may high test scores, get a best job and earn a high salary in the future.
So it’s time to wake up! No matter teachers, parents or students themselves. Students or children are not appendages of parents or teachers, they have their own individual thinking and life. They can take responsibility of themselves no matter what will come to them in the end. Unfortunately, they may have lost their ability to be what they want to be because they are lack of courage to break the chain of strict rules.
