Reflection of class on Jan. 16th
I’m sorry that I posted some original sentences without any quotes from the textbook to my summary yesterday, I did that just because I couldn’t express the same meaning by using my own words such as the difference between bitmap and vector images. But I promise I won’t commit the same mistake twice in today’s summary about chapter 1.
Well, there are a lot of pages I have to read carefully today because the relationship between teachers and technologies is a significant and complex topic in the area of educational technology.
After almost 7 hours’ specific reading and summary writing, I have understood the real relationship between teachers and technologies that they are two different agencies occupying specific niches in an ecosystem. Technologies can’t replace teachers no matter how advanced they are because they are just the extension of capabilities teacher have.
Technologies can do repetitive tasks for teachers, provide excellent ways for presentation and personalize learning experiences, but they can’t response correctly if they received unpredicted instructions in new unstructured conditions; they can’t connect themselves with teaching content according to pedagogy; they can’t evaluate and adjust themselves according to students’ feedback; they can’t communicate with students immediately to track their progress in learning. Only teachers can do that.
We also don’t need to compare different media in instruction and find the best one which functions perfect in the whole process of teaching because different media have specific inches in the learning ecosystem as well. Actually, implementing multimedia into teaching is usually the common choose for most teachers in China.
For Weebly, it’s not difficult for me to use it to create my own website. I choose the blog style for my website and add some small widgets on the interface to make it more interesting. But the pity is that I can’t adjust the position of preset widgets and there is less room for me to add other new widgets.
I have added a button connected with my Blogger interface, so you can view contents in my Blogger conveniently just by clicking that button.
Here is my Weebly site address: http://jimmyzhangq.weebly.com

  1. All right, Jimmy, your comments on the chapter are fine.

I will accept the last paragraph about Weebly as if it were a separate post on the ExActLY assignment, but in the future this should be a separate posting.

The separate posting on your Content Management System is necessary because I am likely to have more extended commentary on the development of the Content Management System. However, the commentary on your Weebly site this session can be really brief. You created a blog, which you fully acknowledge. However, what we are striving to set up is a Content Management System. You already have a blog. I discussed in class the use of articles, not blog posts. Basically, a blog is not a Content Management System and part of the point here is to see the difference. I accept that it is an easy error, since we have used blogs so much in the past, however, I must ask you to please start again - this time working toward the idea of a Content Management System and not a blog.
