Reflection of Podcast
Just as what I said in class, creating an educational podcast is not a valuable job for students to practice their skill on creativity, managing, presentation and communication.
On the one hand, creating an entire and effective podcast will take a very long time for students because they have to make a meticulous plan and schedule to arrange the later activities, choose appropriate text contents, invite relative interviewees and formulate an interview outline which would be sent to interviewees, record audio materials and do editing on computer by using dedicated software, publish the achieved podcast to relative sharing websites and promote the visibility of what they have done. All this process will take a long time.

On the other hand, it’s hard for students to focus on a long time job consistently with the initial enthusiasm, they are easier be districted by other things such as homework and entertainment. And if some students have problem on impressing themselves under the monitor of microphones and recording machines, they will feel nervous and frustrated when they in the process of creating a podcast as the assignment. Actually, their classmates or friends won’t pay more attention to their achieved podcasts than themselves, so they will feel lost when they talk about their podcast to their friends excitedly but receive a faint smile.

  1. OK. But, don't you think it is useful for students to tackle long time span projects. That is a value of podcasts. And, if all the students in class are working on podcasts, there will be a community of interest for discussing it - since everyone had to do one.

While it is true that podcasts are too demanding time-wise to use frequently in class, please don't dismiss this tool as completely not useful. It does have strengths, when used judiciously, even though it may not be a favorite "go to" medium.
